iii. christmas eve.

As I sit here and write, I am content. Life, as they say, is sweet. For the very first time, my husband and I are spending Christmas together. All the previous years of our relationship we have separated for the holidays, spending the festive season with our parents instead. Neither sets of our parents live in the same city as us, so it was always the best option. However, now that we are married, I wanted our first Christmas as husband and wife to be spent together – strange, I know, but I’m crazy like that!

As such, I wanted to make this Christmas extra special. Both sets of parents are travelling to spend it with us, and we will hosting brunch and dinner (and festive siestas in between, I’m sure!). My sister-in-law and cousin-in-law will also be with us, so we will only be missing my sister and her husband. Yesterday, my husband, mum and I went out and bought a real live Christmas tree from a real live Christmas tree farm, which was awesome! I have to admit there was a bit of faffing around, what with trying to MacGyver a stand using a bucket and bricks (the tree farm had sold out of the small size and we decided to not fork out $70 for the next size up), squeezing it into our tiny car, getting rid of all the bugs, spiders, etc, and making it fit into the bucket stand and not lean over. But after all that, I am stoked! While being only a baby tree (just over 5 feet), it is super bushy and smells amazing.

In more firsts, as I mentioned above, we are hosting Christmas for the first time. The feasting will kick off with brunch and will be followed by dinner and dessert. While I am asking family to contribute, I am determined to try and provide the lion’s share, and so roasted my turkey and ham today. I had originally planned on having a totes amazeballs #clean #paleo #vegan #raw feast, but it was all left to the last minute (as per usual) and so I have gone the more traditional route. My husband’s family is Brazilian/Portuguese, and this will actually be the first year that he has Christmas pudding, glazed ham and roast turkey. It is a Christmas full of firsts!

And now I really should go back to my last-minute Christmas wrapping and spending time with the fambam. Wishing everyone out there an awesome Christmas and New Year – may all your wishes come true!!
